Krzysztof Piętka is an artist concentrating on what is closest to him and what is on his mind. He does not comment on his pictures or answer questions concerning the stories he spins on the canvas. He may therefore be considered a painter who absolutely believes in the power of the medium and renders any attempt at explanation unnecessary. The viewer is left to his or her own resources and must rely on the usually quite complicated titles the artist gives to his works. Some of the characters listed in the titles are recurrent, giving an impression of a developing situation in which they participate. It is not certain, though, that the logic of the half-real stories would be possible to unravel even then. The loop seems to be an important motif, represented both symbolically and literally, obsessively and wearily. His is not a soothing type of painting which sustains the viewer’s sense of well-being; quite on the contrary – it seems to aim at escalating anxiety. The trace of those obsessive and complicated emotions is accompanied by the artist’s growing mastery of painting technique. Alternately, Krzysztof Piętka gets closer and further from representative painting towards simplicity nearing abstraction. Regardless of the degree of complication, what plays a crucial role in his paintings is colour, which significantly intensifies the psychedelic quality of the canvases.
